Attendees: Mohan, Murali, Navin, Ramasami, Sastry, Sharmila, Vidhi, Vineeta, Vinod Touch of India's screening of "Dil Se" -------------------------------------- - Touch of India screened "Dil Se" this last Sunday. Murali attended the screening. Apparently, there were about 60 odd people there. - We have to discuss whether we want to continue with this deal with the Touch of India guy in the future. Issues that were brought up: --> Screening of camera prints. --> Even otherwise, it might not be legal to *project* videos without permission from the producer (copyright violations?). --> We, at Asha, rely on our "brand image" as a non-profit voluntary organization that is involved in helping out with literacy projects. So, we have to be concerned about what we get into. Making of the Mahatma : ----------------------- - A funding request has been turned in to MCC and ASM yesterday! We've requested $925 ($600 for movie rental + $250 for theater rental + $75 for publicity) from these organizations. IGSA and IDS-Chicago are co-sponsors of the event. - The proposals will be reviewed September 23rd. - The tentative date for the movie screening is : October 10th, Saturday. (9 am - 12 noon). If everything works out, this will be at one of the theaters at University Square. Asha Hour Money : ----------------- - There were 11 votes. 8 were for sending the money to the central pool and 3 against. - After another round of debate, it was decided to send out the money raised as part of Asha Hour to the central pool. However, it was felt that the Ballia project should be reviewed in one of our meetings. Information about the project is available at: - http://www.ashanet.org/Dbase/inv-hour/text/ballia.htm - http://www.ashanet.org/InfoShare (Go to "Work an Hour Funds Discussion") Stall on India Day (Sept. 12th) : --------------------------------- - It was decided to meet this Friday evening at the "Asha House"(!) to work on the posters for India Day. A separate mail will be sent out for this purpose. Presentation to New Grad Students (Sept. 13th) : ------------------------------------------------ - IGSA is holding a meeting for new grad students on Sunday, Sep 13th, at Union South (6 pm). - Asha will be making a presentation to these students then. - Sastry and Sharmila were volunteered to do the needful! - The presentation will be kept to 10-15 minutes after which the floor will be opened up for questions. Others: ------- - A meeting will be held after things quieten a bit to discuss funding for Little Stars' School. - Vidhi mentioned that Shafatullah Khan, the tabla player, was willing to perform for Asha-Madison at a subsidised rate. Don't know what the subsidised rates are though. Subject for discussion at a later time.
