About the performers:

The Asian-Pacific Dance Study Group was formed to provide a forum for sharing of dance traditions, and to provide performance opportunities for the many trained and talented Asian dancers who have a transient presence on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The group has presented three formal concerts:

  • Bamboo & Brocade, March 2001, dances from India, Thailand, Hawaii, Turkey, China, Armenia, Tajikistan and Eastern Turkestan.
  • A Concert of Asian & Polynesian Dance, September 2001, classical and folk dances from India, Thailand and Samoa.
  • Ramayana Dance Festival, October 2001, attended by close to 800 people, a dance drama from Bali, Thailand and India featuring Balinese classical dance, Thai classical dance, Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam and Kathak
The group has also performed by invitation at numerous gatherings including: Celebrate Madison, May 2001; International Students Graduation Reception, and the American Family Insurance Asian Heritage Month.
