Structure
Asha-MIT, the MIT chapter of "Asha for Education", is a voluntary student organization that was started at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in March 1995. The aim of the group has been to mobilize the substantial local student community to collectively support and provide financial assistance to grassroots level educational movements in India. Our members consist of students from MIT and other univiersities in the local area, and professionals.
We fund education projects and organizations that are apolitical and secular in nature. We are a relatively structure-free, democratically run organization. Our bi-monthly meetings are open to everyone in MIT and the
general community at large. We specifically target programs for basic education for under-privileged children in India. Asha-MIT is a non-profit voluntary organization with tax exemption under Section 501(c)3 (tax id 770-45-9884). The group only supports apolitical and secular organizations. We are a relatively structure-free organization. However, we do have two semi-official posts in order to interface with more structured organizations from time to time
