Congratulations and sincere thanks to each one of you for being a part of the 2008 5K Run/Walk hosted by Asha for Education NYC/NJ chapter!

We are pleased to announce that according to preliminary figures, we were able to raise over $21,000 through the generous support of sponsors and through individual participants' fundraising efforts. As you know, one hundred percent of the event's proceeds go directly to Asha's educational initiatives in India, which include non-formal education for children from underserved communities and children with special needs.

Highlights of the event included:

More than 330 participants showed their enthusiasm and generous support, coming out to run, walk, and volunteer at the event.
Asha Advisory Council member; Joseph Simon, Mr. Patel from Patel's Cash and Carry, Shailen Mistry from Geekbro.com, Mishra Charitable Foundation and countless others donated money towards Asha's 5K Run/Walk fundraiser.
Event prizes, refreshments, and goodie bag items were donated by Devi Restaurant, SoyJoy, Carmex, Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex, Zack's Dance Loft, Patel's Cash and Carry, Pongal and Copper Chimney Restaurants, RNS Candy Store, C-Town, RoadID.com, and Bukhara Grill.
Prizes were awarded to the top two runners (Sunkul Soni and Gautam Nayer in the male category and Janet Salver and Jessica Lyn Zall in the female category) and the top three fundraisers (Lina George, Sunita Vij and Sameera Sabherwal). The race winners, Sunkul Soni and Jessica Lyn Zall, donated their cash prizes to support Asha's mission.
