Interesting and innovative fundraisers are not limited
to us, our projects do them too :).
Last week Seva Chakkara organized their own fundraiser
to raise funds and awareness about the organization.
They organized a cultural show by children of Seva
Chakkara and local schools. In the final event over
7 schools in the local area participated in dance and
music programs along with the children at the
orphanage. However, this was not easy to come by and
till a few weeks back they had only managed to have
one school interested in the event.
But, after over a month of prepration they did manage
to pull of the show with flying colors. The show gave
the children at the orphanage exposure to
participating in cultural events and performing in
public. It also gave the orphanage publicity and
recognition as an organization active with the
community.
The children were let in for free and the parents
were charged :). They even managed to get Sudha
Ragunathan to come as the chief guest.
Mom said that the girls of the orphanage looked very
pretty all decked up as they performed their bharath
natium piece. She was also the MC for the event and
throughly enjoyed it.
They were even able to request a band to come in and
add music for close to no charge.
I'm not sure if they actually made money from the
event yet (as we well know from how events work :)),
but it was a worthwhile experience either way.
