Who is a mentor?
|
A mentor is a Team Asha alumnus who has successfully trained and completed at least one full or half marathon. They have also met or exceeded their fund raising goals in the past. Each runner is assigned to a mentor at the beginning of the program. Mentors take it upon themselves to initiate and motivate beginners into the sport of running and the challenges of fund raising. From a training perspective, the mentor is a liaison between the Coaches and the runner. Mentors help the coaches identify runners who need their immediate attention while keeping track of each of their mentees training schedule and running pace. From a fund raising perspective, the mentor will provide support, tips and guidance on fund raising.

How does a mentor benefit?
Mentors get an insight into the art of motivation and teaching. As many previous mentors will testify, it is extremely rewarding to introduce a person to running and help them avoid the usual pitfalls that beginners could face. The final joy and satisfaction is in seeing your mentees succeed by completing a marathon and at the same time meet their fund raising goals.

How do I become a mentor?
You have to meet the following criteria to become a mentor:
- Be a Team Asha alumnus and completed a half or full marathon.
- You should have met your fund raising goals.
- You should be registered to train for a half or full marathon in the current year with Team Asha.
If you satisfy the above, send an email to nycnj.marathon@ashanet.org. There will be a selection process before the start of the training program. Once selected, you will need to attend a mandatory orientation session in the middle of May. |
