Teaching a man how to fish rather
than feeding him one meal of fish is an old
familiar cliched adage. It is in the same old
but wise adage that Asha has taken recourse into.
In order to address many evils in any society
is not a herculean but an impossible task. One has to get to the roots to
cast out all evils. Illiteracy is what Asha believes as a root problem of
many societal evils in India. Asha believes, “impart education to all, the
rest of the evils will automatically wean away one by one.” It is because
of the strong faith in such a belief that the individuals in the Heartland
submitted themselves towards such a goal. It is this humble submission
that led to the happening of a chapter of Asha in the Heartland – aptly
named Asha-Heartland. Asha for Education is an organization that treats
education as a great equalizer, a source of hope, and a passport to better
socio-economic environment. Education is the gateway to economic
prosperity, social status, and intellectual freedom for children in India
whose future is otherwise bleak.
