2008 Events

2008 Philadelphia Marathon

  • You pledge to run for Asha's cause. We will see you through the finish line. Simply sign up for our marathon training program. We provide coaching, motivation and support to people who want to run or walk an official marathon or half marathon. All we ask for in return is a pledge to raise funds for educational projects in India that Asha sponsors.
  • Our 2008 Marathon program was highly successful! Please email philadelphia AT ashanet DOT org if you are interested in participating/helping to organize TeamAsha Philly 2009!
  • The marathon was held on 23rd November, 2008.

School Supply Drive for Children Affected by the Bihar Floods

  • WHEN: November 10th through November 21st!
  • WHERE: UPENN campus-Harnwell College House, Harrison College House, Roden College House, Gregory, Dubois, Quad and various other Philadelphia locations
  • Schools supported: Aasra Sewa Sansthan, Asha Samajik Vidyalaya, Koshdihara Schools in Bihar
  • 2008 Bihar flood or Curse of the Kosi is a monsoon flood of the Kosi River affecting over 2.3 million people in northern Bihar state of India.  CALLED THE WORST FLOOD IN THE AREA IN 50 years!
    • Around 1000 people have been killed in monsoon rains.
    • Villagers have eaten raw rice and flour mixed with polluted water in Bihar.
    •  Aasra Sewa Sansthan School and Asha Samajik Vidyalaya schools greatly affected by the floods.
  • ALL SCHOOL DESPERATELY IN NEED OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES
  • Officials say that crops on tens of thousands of hectares of land have been damaged by the Bihar floods.
  • Entire school buildings have been demolished and children are widely susceptible to disease.

India Day 2008

  • Asha Philadelphia put up a stand at India Day 2008 held on August 16th, 2008 at Penn's Landing, Philadelphia.
  • The goals were to spread awareness about Asha and the Work an Hour campaign, look for potential volunteers and runners for the Philadelphia marathon.

2007 Philadelphia Marathon

India Day 2007

  • Asha Philadelphia celebrated India's 60 years of Independence by promoting the Work an Hour summer online campaign at Philadelphia's Annual India Day at Penn's Landing. We encouraged Philadelphians to donate 60 minutes of their salary to our projects, to commemorate 60 years of India's freedom. Keep an eye out for Asha at India Day 2008, and please support our 2008 Work an Hour campaign!

2nd Annual Asha Banquet

  • The 2nd Annual Asha Banquet was held on Sunday, April 22nd, 2007. The annual banquet is a great way to celebrate the work of Asha Philadelphia while enjoying great performances, company and food!

2006 Events

6th Annual Asha for Education Basketball Tournament

October 28th
One of Asha-Philadelphia’s biggest fund-raisers, the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is your chance to show up teams from around the area while helping a great cause. Each team can have up to 4 players, with only 3 on the court at all times. Every 2 minutes, the extra player, if available, will sub in. The tournament will be played double-elimination style with a winner’s bracket and a loser’s bracket. If there is enough interest, the tournament format may be switched to single-elimination. Generous prizes will be offered for the top 3 winning teams. We were able to give out over $300 in prizes last year. Water will be available and Gatorade will be sold.
