Mahila Action - Vizag, Andhra Pradesh

Project Title: MAA - Child education & skill development Center

Project Background:
Visakhapatnam is the second largest city in Andhra Pradesh. Due to industrialisation and migration, number of slums in the city are getting added every year to the existing slums. Some of the slums like Kobbarithota, Kallupakulu, Neredukoneru etc are famous for sex workers. Most of the women in these areas are deserted, single women families, having no source of regular income. Some of them are living as sex workers etc. due to the socio economic conditions. Due to their living conditions, the women in these slums are unable to take proper care of their children. The male children do not go to schools and become rag pickers, child labour etc. The girl children are very much influenced to follow their mother’s path and enter into child prostitution, child labour etc. There is an urgent need to motivate the women, create awareness in them about the future of their children. Mahila Action has already initiated some activities to mothers such as formations of SHG’s, income generation activities and identified number of children especially girls who need to be taken care to better their future.
