3. Briefly describe the motivation for starting
this group. Loka Kalyan
Shikshana Sanstha wanted to find out ways and means to co-relate education
with actual living by creating avenues of more purposeful education which
could make student going through the portals of Academy, work for a descent
living and imbibe in him the virtue of work.-culture and finally find an
impetus to his instinct of creativity. Such a student, then in his later life
would derive the real satisfaction
from his life and also enhance the cultural and social level of his surroundings
directly and of his country indirectly. |

4. Briefly describe the aims of your group. Self-development
through self-education and promotion of work culture through education is our
primary aim. Learning through the book of life and nature will lead to happy
life in future. For this the students in their formative age should cultivate
the habit of learning through doing. The glazed pottery and Ceramics arts are
the desciplines, which would naturally give them the real joy of creativity.
The center should eventually develop a bond of education and industry
resulting into a system of value based education related to actual living. |

Please tell us about your teaching techniques (conventional vs. alternative). Starting with conventional techniques we develop into modern techniques to develop glazed pottery and art pieces in art effects and sculpture. |

What is the literacy rate in the local community? It is difficult to state in exact terms. However it may be roughly 80%. |

tell us about that as well. By and large literate. Occupation is mainly agriculture and pottery traditional, in a section of the community. |

possibilities. The Aaj Arts and Ceramics
Arts Training and Research Center has been just started and is starved of
funds. Our present strength is 30 trainees. Their future education is advanced training course
which will be started when we complete the infrastructure. Their employment facilities are: 1. basically
self-employment 2. employment in bigger manufacturing units, as trained
personnel. 3. Taking the job as a trainer |

after they have passed out of your school? No |

Are there any other schools (Kindergarten/Balwadi, Elementary school, High school) in the area? If so, please list the schools and the range of classes
each of them offers. Yes 6 balwadis, 5 primary
schools, 3 middle schools, 2 high schools, 1 junior college (11th
and 12th) |

21. Is your program
different from that provided at these schools? Please explain. Yes. We are
aiming to introduce learning through doing. As far as the curriculum is
concerned, it is the same for the educational institutes from primary level
to junior college. Our training in pottery and ceramics is outside the
curriculum. |

22. Why are the children in your school/s not attending government/other schools in the local area? As far as
the school is concerned, the students would prefer to join the school which
is nearer. There are no government schools in the state of Maharashtra. But
all schools have to be recognized by the State Department of education and
have to teach the curriculum laid down by the Director of Education in the
state. The atmosphere, facilities in our school attract the students to our
school. |

23. Do you try to involve
the parents of the children in the running of the school (e.g. in setting the
syllabus etc.)? Please specify. No. Please

24. What are your
expansion plans for the future (e.g. adding more classes or schools)? To develop 'Aaj Ceramics
Training and Research Center". To build hostel for outside students. To build three storied building to house the
above-mentioned center and furnish it with equipments such as Grinders,
Welding transformers, bench cutters, drilling machines, lathe machines,
spanners and other tools Pot mills, Tile machines, Drier, Extruders,
Blenders, Pug-mill, Higher-temperature kilns, TV set projectors, VCP, CD
player, books and periodicals. |

suggestions on how Asha can be a positive influence in changing the education
scenario in India? By
financially aiding the training institutes like Lok Kalyan Shikshan Sanshtha
which is developing non-formal education, in India, specifically in the rural
area. |

restrictions. The Govt
grants which pays the salaries of the Training College and the High School
and certain percentage of non-salary grant which cannot be spent on any other
purpose. We meet our deficit from the donations we collect from patrons. For
the 'Aaj Arts Ceramics and Research Center - Aajgaon', there is no government
assistance absolutely whatsoever nor we finding willing donors to finance the
project. |
