The day before the visit(Friday), me and sriram planned to travel together to PJ. I called up Sundari mami on friday and she replied me that she is travelling to USA on Saturday(personal visit). She said Rathna mami(manager for PJ) will be available during our visit and gave her contact numbers. On Saturday, 12PM , Sundari mami called me up and invited us for the lunch with them at PJ. Though i said i was done with my lunch, she claimed that having lunch with the students will be greatly appreciated. Intially we planned to vist PJ by 2.30PM. But Sundari mami was leaving PJ by 1.45PM , we started leaving earlier.I picked Sriram from the Lalbagh West gate. with my 6 months stay in Bangalore, i was not good in finding locations that even some remote place like JP Nagar 7th phase Puttanahalli village. We travelled many loop backs and managed to get to PJ finally by 1.40PM. Roads are still in bad shape as told by Santhosh. Prasanna Jyothi s not famous in that area, many of the nearby people do not have any clue about this org. PJ Building looks like a home wtih 2 floors . The building is facing beautul lake and they are maintaining a garden in side the Campus. We received a warm welcome from Sundari mami and the students. Students were taking lunch when we stepped in. I could see around 15 students sitting on the ground and taking lunch in pleasant manner. Sundari mami delivered a brief insights about the PJ and the students. She also offered us good lunch prepared by her and shared with the students. She s expected to come back in June this year. Students sang prayers after they finished their lunch. I brought lot of chocolates for them and gave it to the cook. I brought Asha india calendar for sriram but later gave it toStudents. Sundari mami said that she received the calendar already from Gaurav during his last visit . She also mentioned that many asha volunteers visited their place and admired their dedication. I was surprised to see "Swami sukabogananda" picture on the hall, later kusuma ( 5ht sem BE student in PJ) told me that Swamiji is the founder of this organisation. She also claimed that swamji visits this place whenever he comes to bangalore. ( i m great fan of Swamiji and people refer him as management guru ;many MNCs offer his course on campus to improve lifestyle as well as managing stressful conditions) Initially the children (Bhargavi, Anusha, chandra,Nivedhita,Gayathri ,the youngest one and others) were having some intital hickups to meet and interact with us. Later, Bhargavi was quite excited with our professional Photographer (Sriram) and asked him to take pictures.Within few minutes, every one was on line to get Solo and group pics. Some 30 minutes left on the Shooting i believe. PJ has a large hall surrounded by kitechen and 2 rooms. One room is studying room for younger children and other room is the rest room for the manager i believe. On upstairs, they have one huger room for studying and another room for computer. Mainly the first floor is used by elder students. I see huge list of medals and cups in the showcase and Kushma (eldest one) told me that Sharadha (previous student of PJ) received them form her college, Saratha s now woking on ISRO after completing her diploma in computer science and happily settled in life. Few medals are from other students who stays in PJ. Now there are 20 students in PJ and they have plans to add 5 more students in this year. Sundari mami said that she wanted to talk to me about Intel funding once she comes back in June. Now it s my turn to interact with students and i showed the Asha calendar and Children were well excited to see the pictures on the calendar. Most of them are good in spoken english though they are under 5th grade ( they are good compared with 8th grade govt school children )All of them are going to private schools (St johns and oxford private school) and having tutions in the evening just like any other children at home. They are given decent stationaries and books for their studies. I just told the students that i will give prizes to everyone if they can draw something what they observed in the calendar. All of them were taking papers, pencil, sketches and started drawing. Each of them are well captured in the camera. One girl even took scale to draw a perfect home with colors. Few drew animals too. It was all great fun. Later one girl showed me some amazing fabric paintings. I was so surprised to see their hidden talents. These pictures look so perfect and wonderful. Usha (2nd PUC) painted all those pics. She also made hands full of greeting cards with her paintings. By seeing those, i had intention to help her by selling those in bulk order at Intel campusand get some income for her. ( FYI I already sold 50 Asha calendars in Intel, i m sure ppl will buy this greeting cards as well) She also made envelops and some letter heads with her paintings. She s quite deserved for well recognition. later i started painting some cartoons and easy way of drawing pictures like Car, House, Natural picures to them, few children followed my handouts. . Atleast none of them laughed at my picture :) Later i started interacting with Deepika,Kusuma, Uma and Usha. They said they had some issues with computer and needs to be repaired. Deepika is studying seceratary diploma, planing to do BCOM. There s one more student working in Transworks and planning to get married this year. She is of same age as Kusuma. We all went to the 1st floor and took the computer, monitors and other accessories from the shaft. We cleaned it up and started booting the system. System booted well but reported that no OS installed. Later found that Hard disk was crashed and we were unable to locate any good OS CDs to install. Later kusuma said that she had called up some Comp engineer to fix this issue sometime this week. I told them to install WinXP or 98 and the hardware s in good shape. Then we all came back to the hall and the children danced for us. Four of them are good in dance steps and they have huge interest in those activities. Sriam caputred video on his Camera and showed many playbacks for these children. For each pic we took, they want to playback and enjoy with others. It was great fun for us as well. (Good stress reliever for me after long time) Looks like there were 3 Staffs in PJ, two of them (warden and Cook) are staying together with children in the building. One watchman and his wife (maid) are staying in the outhouse just adjacent to bldg. Children and family of all the three PJ Staffs are staying inside bangalore but away from PJ site. During weekends, they will meet their family. At any time, two females and one male watchman is staying on the bldg for Children protection. Later i met the girl for whom the eye operation is to be done. Kusuma told me that she had studied only 4th grade, could not study as one of her eyes had some serious issues for which Sundari mami is consulting the eye surgeon. She is quite peaceful and helping the cook in the bldg. she dont go outside very much. She did not talk to me as she dont speak none other than kannada. Kusuma spoke english very well and she managed all the younger kids while non of the managers (Rathna mami , Sundari mami) available. All children call Sundari mami as "Mummy" which sounds great. PJ have its own car in which all children go to school , also they drop and pick up sundari and Rathna mami from their houses (Jaya nagar). Other students(10th grade) are going by Bicycle . After sometime, except the little ones, everyone left for tution around 3PM. Kusuma also explained me the process and day to day activities of all students. Later the little children took us to the garden. They have huge plantaitons like Tomato, brinjal, Beans and many flowers. After a small photoseesion, we all came back to the play ground. We all played few games and left around 4.15PM. It was quite dificult to leave them as we are too attached to the little ones. Bhargavi and gayathri were standing on the gate , waiving us good bye. I planned to visit PJ twice a month and play with the children. It s great feel of pleasure for them and great feel of satisfaction for us. We did not see any PJ accounts as none of the Stewards were available. Children are enjoying well inside the campus. They dont have any issues or concerns as far as i spoke to Kusuma causally. Staffs are also treating them well with good respect.
