ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR 2000-2001

Our institution was started in the year 1994 especially meant for School for Hearing Impaired children. The institution has completed its 7th year of period till today. The school is first of its kind in Mahalakshmi Layout, Bangalore-86 area and providing education for specially 'HEARING HANDICAPPED'. No fees or any funds fixed to the parents of the hearing impaired children.

In the initial year only 30 students were admitted. During the succeeding years the strength of the school has raised to 95. The medium of instruction is Kannada. The syllabus is prescribed as per the Government text books prescribed by the Govt. of Karnataka. The examination pattern is also as per the Karnataka Government Secondary Examination Board manner.

The teaching method of these students is as follows:-

1) Identify the capacity of the child to recognize and concentrate her/his mind to grasp the idea of the teacher.

2) After knowing the grasping capacity of the child, teacher start to teach by method of speech therapy.

3) The teachers appointed for this school are possessing 10+2 qualifications and have completed the training course of "Diploma in Deaf Education" (D.Ed) recognized institute of speech and hearing, Bangalore, Govt. of Karnataka.

4) The students who wish for admission to our school are below 4 to 6 years age group and parents have been educated in this aspect before admitting their wards to this institution.

5) The instruments required for these students are as follows:

i) Individual (pocket) hearing aids
ii) Speech (therapy) trainers iii) Group Hearing Aids
iv) Tape recorders v) Voice Recorders. Pictures, albums, charts like rivers, hills, ships, transport like trains, airplanes, cars etc. communication instruments like telephone, radio, TV, maps etc.

6) We are providing furniture like desk & benches, specially meant for deaf children, sports items, cultural activity materials and any other items which are needed to these children as and when needed.

7) As usual medical checkup to students will be conducted in the Govt. Institutions and therefore our school students will also get medical ear checkup annually for all the students from the 'ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF SPEECH & HEARING' students will be taken to Mysore for this medical ear checkup with our own expenses. No charge is fixed to parents to parents of the hearing handicapped children.

8) Our school students will be participating in sports activities and cultural activities as and when along with physical educator.

9) The excursion program to students is compulsory and monthly, quarterly and annually as per the time table fixed by the school calendar year.

10) Our students are actively participating in the 'INDEPENDENCE DAY', Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Children's day, Teacher's day, Kannada Rajyothasava day, School Annual day celebrations. The students will be enlightened about the importance of the above celebrations of national festivals and state festivals.

11) The management committee of the organization is providing uniforms, books, shoes with socks, individual hearing aids etc freely without charging any rate from the parents aside in addition to providing free education.

12) The management is providing transport facilities to our school students who are admitted to our school as these students are belonging to economically very backward classes of families.

13) The LIONS CLUB OF BANGALORE WEST has held the conference of the district governors meeting on 5th September 2000 at Bharathi Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore, who have invited our teachers for the conference and they have recognized our school teachers for the service and among them two teachers have been selected for 'AWARD OF THE BEST TEACHER' and awarded a certificate along with a momentum recognizing them as 'THE BEST TEACHER'.

14) The INTERNATION ROTERY CLUB OF BANGALORE HIGH GROUNDS has held the conference of the District Governers meeting on 26/1/2001 at Thmmaiah, Gangamma Choultry, Basaveswarnagar who have invited our school staff for the service and among them 5 teachers have been selected for 'AWARE OF THE BEST TEACHER' and they are also awarded a certificate along with momentum recognizing them as 'THE BEST TEACHER'.

15) The school examination/test/mid-term examination is prescribed in the manner in which the government schools are prescribed. a) conducting monthly tests b) conducting mid-term exam c) conducting preparatory exam d) conducting final exam. The results will be published on the 10th April every year as per the government schools calendar of events.

16) The vacation system of the school is as follows:-

a) All Sundays will be holidays and also Government holidays as prescribed by the state government.
b) The mid term vacation after the conclusion of the mid-term exam and again re-opened.
c) The summer vacation will start from 11th April soon after the publication of the annual exam results and reopen the school 1/6/2001 as per the government schools.

The contents of the report for the year 2000-2001 are found true at the present period. The school expenses are met by the individuals and donors. Contributors have come willingly to contribute towards our school developments and for welfare of hearing handicapped students.
