Annual Report for 2004 and budget requirement for 2005
I am glad to inform you that what started as a reading activity during my interactions with the schools has transformed into a successful mobile library program with your support and encouragement. I remember the days when I used to carry books in my bag during my school visits. During that time not many children were keen on reading books. We had to help such non-readers by giving them books with lots of pictures, telling them stories and getting them to enact stories from the books and so on. This little bit of help from us was all that was required to make them love books.
Now, the situation is completely different. Children look forward to the mobile library van and crowd around it when it goes to their school.
We have a total of 2500 books. We have about 450 Telugu titles of which 135 are story books, 50 are mythological, 65 historical, 25 educational, 75 science and 100 others which include morals, poems, plays etc., There are about 50 English books and 25 Urdu books.
From our issue registers we see that there are 619 children from 15 schools who are regular borrowers. About 450 children are occasional borrowers and another 150 children read books when the library visits the schools. There are 30 teachers who regularly borrow books from the library. We want to reach out to another 1000 children in the coming year.
During the year on an average the Library has visited each school 15 times.
Other schools in the vicinity have shown interest in taking part in the library program. This year we would like to get more books for the library and include other interested schools in the program.
We request funds for the running expenses of Mobile Library during the year 2005.
