Where I would be working?

My intervention initially will be with 15 government school in Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The schools will be either single teacher or where the teacher- child ratio is more than 1: 40.

What are my objectives?

I want to bring about a better quality of education in schools

I want all school age children enrolled in schools

I want to minimise school drop outs

I want to reduce the gender disparity in schools

I want a strong network of committed teachers working for quality in education

I want to create a resource centre

How would I achieve my objectives?

Introduce multi grade teaching through on going training

Develop and use appropriate learning material

Make learning process more interactive and lively

Make learning a joyful experience

To encourage thinking, questioning, experimentation and creativity

Strike a balance between information, creativity and logical/abstract thinking

Provide an opportunity to children to explore their creativity in art and craft

Network teachers so that they regularly interact to share knowledge, information and skills

Activate parental involvement

What would I be doing?

I would go to a school and work the whole day with the teacher, training her in multi grade teaching, equiping her with the skills and material. Helping her prepare learning material for the specific needs of the school. Help her organise art and craft for children. Help the teacher and children do simple science experiments in class to encourage experiential learning. The next day I would go to another school and do similar activities.

I want to research and develop learning material in all subject areas of primary education

I want to facilitate regular teachers meetings to share knowledge, information and skills. And to bring about solidarity among the teachers.

How do I visualise the programme time line?

I visualise this to be an ongoing programme.

Where my commitment to a particular number of schools is limited.

Initially I will be working with 15 schools for a period of four years.

First year the on-going-at-school training is intensive, with the emphasis on multi level teaching

Second year the ongoing training continues, with more central trainings

Third year I will concentrate on research and establishing a resource centre, the teachers become more confident to implement the programme on their own with the support from the resource centre. I will select another set of 15 schools to work with.

Fourth year each of these schools adopt one other school to implement the programme.

By now the schools can utilise the resorce centre for training, learning material and networking

Fifth year the programme continues with minimal financial support, but with maximum human resource support available.

Sixth year all the schools in that particular mandal are covered under the programme

Seventh year it is time for me to move to another mandal if the programme has not been replicated throughout the district by then.

Why should ASHA support me in this programme?

I had the opporunity to study in an alternative school where multi level teaching was very successful. I have the urge to replicate it in a wider area.

I have more than ten years of experience in developmental education (resume enclosed).

I am not an organisation nor institution but an individual who is interested in initiating this programme.

I need support to sustain myself and the programme.
