Natpurwa Project Proposal I, Neel kamal, am a resident of the village of Natpurwa, Post Sikoria, Dist. Hardoi. My educational qualification is Bachlor of Arts. I am entirely unsatisfied with current educational system. I have a developed an idea for a school in which students can gain self-employment skills within a formal educational system. I have been volunteering with Asha for last three years and I am at present a teacher in one of Asha's projects (Asha Ashram, Lalpur). I agree with the social-activities of Asha, and desire to do something creative which has been inspired by Asha. The current status of my village: Within my village, there only exists one main caste: Nat of which I am a member, this caste's main profession is prostitution. I would like to contribute in solving this problem in a creative manner. There are two major problems in my village, the first one being prostitution and the second country liqour production units. Prostitution is not limited to the border of the village, the girls are sent to Mumbai from here by outside brokers. The two main causes for prostitution are poverty and family members wanting luxurious lifestyles thus forcing their female children into prostitution. I and my childhood friend Guddu (Ram Sagar) want to work towards solution of these problems. We believe that people in this village are forced to live a miserable life and the lives of their children therefore become horrible. The children learn at an early age abusive and rude behaviour because of the influence of the life-style at home and social-environment. Looking at these children we are forced to think about their future. Currently I want to establish a school for these children and also formulate solutions for these horrible situations. We want to educate the children in such a manner by which they can develop and discover themselves and move forward in the right direction. Our vision is not only to make them literate and create self-employment opportunities, but we also have visions and goals that target other activities and problems of the village, by which there will be no physical and mental exploitation of any human being. For self-reliance I want to do bee-keeping in the first year year, for myself and Guddu, and chiken embroidery work for the women. Budget: S.N.
