One exciting new development is that Saravana Kumar (one of your original SEED partners, who left for a couple of years but returned after Karthi's departure) and Sasikala will be heading off to the north for a 9-month experience that's a bit hard to describe, but you can read about the place at . It sounded like a great chance for the best SEED kids to develop facets of their potential that we can't give, but it's EXPENSIVE (Rs.50,000/student, all-inclusive except travel to/from). After Thamarai and Sasi sent applications in April, and had phone interviews on 15 May ("we will communicate the decision to you within the next two days"), we didn't hear from GYC until 9 June when acceptance e-mails came. Sasi, Saravanan and Thamarai will be training up to Dehradun - leaving on the 20th, arriving 23rd - to attend the "leadership workshop" at the college. At this point, we're assuming the two will stay (they're packing for the duration), and Thamarai will fly back from Delhi on 1 July to start his Master of Social Work classes a week late. I figured Thamarai deserved the trip - he's never been farther than Rameswaram before - for all his help and support in the worst times. (When he said one of his reasons for turning down the GYC chance was "so I can stay and help you with SEED," I was sky-high pleased!) All-inclusive fees for Sasi and Saravanan at Gap Year College this year are Rs.50,000/student. The dollar amount of $2500, at current exchange rates less bank charges, should come to almost exactly the required rupee amount. (Any small difference could be given to the students for expense money.) If this is possible, the transfer should specify that the funds are designated for: 2007-08 Gap Year College fees for SEED-Madurai students S. Sasikala (Rs. 50,000/-) and S. Saravana Kumar (Rs. 50,000/-). Any remaining balance should be remitted to the students for incidental expenses.
