Meeting minutes from chapter meeting on 06/29/2011 Attendees: Vinod, Anju, Vivek, Vijay, Neehar, Madhu Call-in: Sachin, Anshu BeT: SAC project 4 homes for girls in insurgency affected areas – Birwah, Kupwara, Anantnag, Jammu. Kupware closest to LOC. -AfeSV supports 2 homes -last year we supported 70 girls out of total of 131 girls, age group 3-16 years, plan is to continue supporting 70 girls 2009-10 -last year we supported Rs. 16800 pc/py 2010-11 -last year we supported Rs. 17500 pc/py out of requested Rs 19200, shortfall was supported by an individual donor. Emergeny funding sent in Nov to fund 2 tutors, in 3 homes for 3 months, Schools closed due to volatile situation, funding for home schooling Second half of last year’s funding due -BTW Organization received Mother Teresa award for excellence in the field -Kids attended republic day parade, met Kiran Bedi -couple of girls received national award in photography -about 80% girls are from economic backward families, 20% are either orphaned due to militancy -one girl Chamila did very well in 10th, moved to pune for higher education, wants to pursue civil services, being supported by principal of the college Q: what has been the community involvement A: initially in 2002, when project started, reluctance in community to send girls to BeT. This has improved significantly over the years. -Schools were closed from June to Nov last year, we supported teachers for home schooling, kids were able to give their exams due to home schooling Anju visited home in Feb 11, visit was very encouraging, show pictures Army provided some in-kind support – medical checkups etc This year’s budget is same as last year – Rs 17500 py/pc. One girls graduated from 12th, pursuing B.Ed – should we continue support for her? [AI] Check if donor is willing to continue support at higher funding level (Anju to check) What is the plan going forward ? -look for a more stable location, possibly building a facility, current homes are all rented, not easy to find alternate rental locations Do girls drop out due to marriage? One girls got married this year (refer to article Anju sent yesterday) Child marriage not an issue.
