Report by Viswanathan Asha Chennai
25th April 2006

For the past one year I have visiting the school regularly at least once a month. The children in the school are mainly children of migrant brick kiln workers; The school has a hostel attached with 35 children. A few of these children go another govt. school nearby for middle school education while the majority of them study at This school.

The State Govt has recently recognized the school upto class 8. There are classes upto class 5 this academic year and will have class 6 next year 2006-2007. The school will in two year reach class 8. The school has 80 children but we hope to see increase in the strength. Asha Chennai has supported the school with provisions for four months of June- September for the noon meals for all the children and also the dinner and breakfast for the hostel children.

Asha Chennai has provided the following to the school and hostel

  1. Fans
  2. Tube lights
  3. Library books, a closed cupboard and open shelves
  4. Lab materials
  5. Play materials for the children

We have spent Rs121851 on the project from June 05 to February 06. There was a specific donation for the school.

The roofs require repairing. The school requires some benches and desks for the library. The estimated cost of the work and furniture should be around Rs 70,000. His teachers have been receiving money from ILP ( India Literacy Project) which has stopped after 3 years. He requests Asha Chennai consider teacher salaries from June 2006. The salary budget for 2006-2007 12 months will be abgout Rs13500 per month. Mr. Arputham who is the coordinator is very committed to the school and wants to see it grow. He has borrowed money to pay the education dept the school recognition fee and caution deposit for upgradation to middle school.

I feel we should support the school with repairs and also the teachers salaries..
