3. Briefly describe the motivation for starting this group.

Being in the filed of special education for 12 long years, I have strongly felt that there is need for exclusive school for slow learners. Having such problem in family motivated and inspired me to start this school with the support of family members.

4. Briefly describe the aims of your group.

1. To educate slow learners in all aspects of life.

 

2. To rehabilitative them in open employment through systematic training.

 

3. To give therapeutic services to disabled with multi disciplinary team to overcome the degree of disability.

There are two centers in Hyderabad.

 

SHARADDHA center focus on education of slow learners.

 

SAABURI which is located in Khairatabad caters services to the needs of all kinds of disability

Remedial teaching trough multi sensorial techniques with the aim of vocational rehabilitation and open employment.

11. What is the literacy rate in the local community?

We have 57 children studying in the school out of them 45 parents are educated and rest of them are uneducated.   

 

12. Describe the socio-economic background of the children and their parents (e.g. education, occupational). If any of your students are employed, please tell us about that as well.

 

There are different backgrounds, most of them are well educated but the rest of them are very poor and the school is providing free education and therapies for those who cannot afford.

It is because of unique methodology of the school. 

 

18. How many children have gone through your program in the past five years and what are they doing currently? Please tell us about their future education and employment possibilities.

We are very proud to submit that 4 of our students have passed out National open school’s 10th standard .We have prepared unique and exclusive curriculum for slow learners from class I to IX.The school is one of its kind in providing such study material which enhance the all areas of needed skills in life’s of slow learners. We always aim at total rehabilitation of each child with open employment where he can be self sufficient with dignity.

19. Do you help your students with their future education efforts after they have passed out of your school?

Yes, This is our strength area. We have employed two of our boys who have passed out 10th standard with one of the stock broking office, where they are getting Rs.1000 / month

20. Are there any other schools (Kindergarten/Balwadi, Elementary school, High school) in the area? If so, please list the schools and the range of classes each of them offers.

 

This is only school working for slow learners in Hyderabad. 

 

21. Is your program different from that provided at these schools? Please explain.

 

Yes, No other institute has specialized curriculum for slow learners with the aim to vocational training.

22. Why are the children in your school/s not attending government/other schools in the local area?

No normal school or regular education system is coming forward to help these children in normal stream. Most of the children come to us are from normal school where they labeled as “Worthless” or “Not fit to school “. Once they enrolled in our school we always try to boost their self-esteem. So learning will take place.

 

23. Do you try to involve the parents of the children in the running of the school (e.g. in setting the syllabus etc.)? Please specify.

 Yes, two of our children parents are actively involved in the preparation of our curriculum.

Three of our children parents regularly come to school to teach yoga, dance, and music to the children. 

24. What are your expansion plans for the future (e.g. adding more classes or schools)?

We would like to expand our vocational unit. At present we have tailoring and paper bag making unit. We would like to start such a unit where the children learn the work and earn out of it. 

25. Do you have any suggestions on how Asha can be a positive influence in changing the education scenario in India?

Asha can make big difference in education by reaching unreached.

The monthly expenditure comes approximately Rs.80, 000 includes rent, salaries, transport, training expenditure, where we get income of Rs.45, 000 P.M.

The rest of the amount we spend is from personal sources.
