Agenda Items: Have spoken to Jigani school. They are getting us a list of students that would need sponsorship. Did not ask any questions. Will get the information when I speak to them the next time. Discussed and got numbers of distribution of students from classes 1-12. Please look at the attached xls spread sheet. The classification includes breakdown based on caste and male/female ratio. We discussed the numbers that were provided. We picked up a couple of classes to see the trend in the strength as teh students go from cone year to another. And we also discussed the trend considering just the backward classes. Why arent we seeing any drop out rate in lower classes as expected? Very few kids drop out from the school from 1-7th. As the school puts great effort and offer very good teaching. Drop out rate is more in classes 8-10 as a lot of student struggle with the education system transitioning from a govt school where quality of eductaion is not so good and financial reasons. Why do we see that the percentage of schedule caste/schedule tribe students increase in classes 8-10? Most of backward class student joing govt schools for classes 1-7 as education is free, mid-day meals and free books and uniforms. As Nityananda school is the only one that offers classes 8 upwrads in the region(5 Km radius) a lot of the students from the govt schools join Sri Nityananda school. What are the number of schools in the close by area? Primary Schools: 20 High Schools: 4 Colleges: Only one in 15 kms. Discussed various proposals: Infrastructure: Recieved proposal for school building. Also request for desks, benches etc. It was decided we would not fund any infrastucture proposal as yet. Need computers: Need to speak to Raman to find out about Intel sponsorship. Meal Plan: A lot students struggle for their daily meal. Providing daily meal plan will attract a lot of students. The cost break down was 15 Rs per student per meal. Approx 6 days a week * 52 = 4500 Rs per student. The amount is very expensive to fund and difficult to supervise. Decided we would not fund. Sponsoring Kids Education: Main expenses are Tution : 500 Rs Uniform: 800 Rs Gals/500 Rs Boys Books: 500 Rs Excursions: 400 Rs Approx: 2200 Rs per student per year. Teachers Salary: Currently the school spends 1.25 lakhs on teacher salary. The school finds it difficult to pay tution for the Mar-May as the school is closed. The school has a total of 40 teachers supported by Jigani school.8 teachers by the Govt. The salry ranges from 3000-6000 Rs. Lower grade teachers get paid lesser than the Higher grade teachers.
