Followings are our responses to your querries. 1. Scholarship: Apna skool provides approximately 50 scholarships to the students who continue their education after completing class V from Apna skool. We request Asha to fund for 12 only. The scholarship is meant to meet the expenses due to school fees, text books, stationeries, uniform and conveyance. 2. Teachers Training: a. Last year, it was held at Hoshangabad and the training was by Eklavya (an organization working for education in MP). b. Volunteers from Eklavya also came to Kanpur to train teachers of Apna skools. c. It is also regularly (last Saturday of each month) conducted at Kanpur. Fculties/students of IIT Kanpur impart the training in Arithmatic, Science, Hindi, History and Geography. d. This year, the plan is for training with DIGANTAR (a well known organization committed towards education and teachers training programme at Jaipur, Rajasthan). 3. Please intimate us the names and contact details of the stewards (who will be associated with Apna Skool) from Asha. 4. Though not asked by you, please note the following points associate with the proposal: a. Students of Apna Skool (class III and V) appear for annual examinations through National Open School (NIOS). b. The proposal sent to you is exclusively for Asha. The partial support from AID (already granted for this year) is not part of this project proposal. c. Thirty students of Apna Skool have joined the nearby Government schools. d. It was possible as the status of the parents of these kids is semi-permanent. Dinesh, Can you please tell us a date by which we can know a definite response from Asha. Please feel free to let us know if we can do something to accelerate the process. With regards Pranab Oct 24th 2009 Dear Vijaya didi, SKI, Madhav, Pranab, Meeting minutes from the Jagriti presentation at the SV chapter [2] Jagriti Bal Vikas Samiti [new proposal] [Dinesh/Sabita] HYPERLINK "http://www.ashanet.org/projects/project-view.php?p=81"http://www.ashanet.org/projects/project-view.php?p=81 (Jagriti) Apna Skool started back in 1994 in Kanpur by JBVS Started as 1 school, and now extends to 20 schools in 15 centers -- most are in brick kilns, the others in construction sites Most of the children are kids of migrant workers coming in from Bihar This year, given the low/late monsoon, the laborers are already in Kanpur, ahead of time JBVS have been working with the govt to get the kids to join in mainstream After RTE provision for migrant children (no need for TC; have to admit by law; have to provide remedial coaching) -- so change in strategy About 18% have stayed beyond the first year, 7% beyond 3 years and 5% beyond 7 years, after passing through JBVS So they want to provide specific vocational training for the older kids Also want to focus more on community participation this year Want to replicate Apna Skool in other places We'll follow up closely on how they monitor implementation of RTE in Kanpur govt schools, including their RTI experience Current budget is Rs 13lakhs -- increased because of salaries, textbook etc costs for 20 schools They will approach other options once we let them know how much we can support They are in a bit of urgency since school is starting a month early this time With RTE, there is a clear exit strategy -- question is how well will it be implemented and what we can do follow-up with all stewards to contact their projects on RTE Need to clarify why 12 scholarships Where does the teacher training happen? Stewards to check with the NGO regarding how much they can raise locally or through other sources. Once that is done, we will setup a poll for a percentage of this budget [possibly between 60 to 100%] Note: This question arose due to the marked increase in the budget and the down economy. The chapter was also made aware that AID portland is also supporting a part of the project. In the past individual donors used to donate through our chapter -- stewards to reactivate these channels and see if those donors can come back (Ski has been contacted and i was contacted by Palani from Seattle) In addition there is an evaluation doc (requirement for all projects at SV) for Jagriti that has been created and we would like your inputs on the same. The purpose of the evaluation doc is define clear expectations and measurable outcomes (if possible). At the end of the year we will all (project partner and SV) revisit the eval doc and record progress. Have a great day. dinesh " І Ј й л ё є k m Н Р t v № ѓ b d ћ ў I K U \ a h j p Z [ \ ( ) P Q & ' ѕщѕцпцпцпцпцпцпцпцпцпцпцпцпцицдЮдцЧцНЧБЧцдцдцдцЊц B*CJ phMN >*B*CJ ph!`Ў wh!`Ў j CJ U j CJ U 5CJ H* 5CJ CJ OJ QJ CJ OJ QJ CJ 5CJ H*OJ PJ QJ 5CJ OJ PJ QJ 1 !
