Asha-NRV Minutes of Meeting: 05/18/2012 Attendees: Aditya, Nagendra, Shiva, Amit and Sonal Discussion and Voting on GVS (Grama Vikasa Saradhi, Tattabanda, Visakhapatnam, AP ) library project: Background: Asha NRV and Asha Knoxville have been involved with GVS for the last 4 years, supporting various activities of the society. Last year, Asha NRV received a proposal from GVS for setting up 6 libraries catering to 25 villages of GVS operation. Last Asha NRV decided to support to one library in Sainangar catering to 5 villages. The support if $1200 came from QED (quality of Education) initiative of Asha main and $1000 from chapter funds. We received biannual reports from GVS about the progress in library project. Sainagar library is fully functional now and many activities are being conducted as per the plan. The details of which will be uploaded on project site. We found the report to be very satisfactory. This year, we received the renewed proposal for 3 libraries (Gompa, Thotakurapalem, Seethayyapeta) ). The proposal had many common elements with the last year proposal, listing all the initiative they intend to take up in the libraries (details will be posted on project site). Project review was done in collaboration with newly set up Asha-UVA (University of Virginia) chapter. A site visit was done recently by a relative of one of our volunteer. The report in Hindi has been received. The budget is for the three libraries is split into Infrastructure, Maintenance and staff honarariums. We decided to vote on funding one library: Voting: We decided to take up one of the libraries ( Seethayyapeta or Thotakurapalem) depending on the priority of the NGO. 1. Should Asha-NRV fund $2300 to one of the GVS library project this year ? Yes-5, No- 0. Hence Unanimous. 2. As per last years voting last year, we will continue funding the Sainangar library. $2000 should be sent soon UVa chapter has voted for supporting library Gompa with total budget of Rs 99,000 (~$2000). Since, they are a new chapter and fundraising has not started yet, Asha-NRV will fund the Gompa libray for the first year. This was unanimously approved by the members.
