BHARATHI TRUST
QUARTERLY REPORT – JANUARY-MARCH 2002
Bharathi gets another feather in its cap. The State Government was impressed by the functioning of the Motivational Centres and hence approved and took over the Kottakulan School. This was a boost for the teacher’s morale and they are now more than convinced in their teaching methodology and approach.
Some of the Government Officials visited Rajarathinagar School and observed the classes. They were overwhelmed by the efforts taken by the teachers to make their teaching meaningful. They were impressed with the student’s response and interaction with the teachers.
The Central Government on the other hand has given a green signal to Bharathi to identify villages that need schools. It has promised to aid 400 schools in Thiruvallur District. The Sarpam leaders put their acts together and made a survey of the villages in Thiruvallu Districts, which had no schools. Bharathi decided to enroll 12 schools initially into the Government school.
This year the Republic Day celebration was held with much fanfare, when all the children of the Motivation Centres gathered at Kundalimedu. In order to instill in the students a sense of patriotism, the teachers narrated stories of the heroic deeds of our national leaders, their sacrifice in the freedom struggle. Songs and drama based on nationalism was sung and enacted respectively. A debate followed by sports events was held on that day. The children had prepared flags and distributed to all present there. The guests of honour were the village head and all the school committee members.
The sports events included the running race, sack race, bun and trickle race etc. The village head gave away the prizes. The first prize was a notebook, the second prize was a pencil and the third prize was a scale and rubber. The school committee promised to provide prizes the following year.
Ever since Mr. Sundar Iyer and D.Prakash visited the schools and introduced mental calculation of addition and subtraction, it has now become a trend among the teachers to test the children in the above manner.
The children of the Motivation Centres were taken to Mahabalipuram, the golden beach and the tiger caves, as part of their annual excursion.
