The Program

Team Asha Marathon program is a training program and a fundraiser for Asha, Seattle. It provides the necessary coaching and support system for both the experienced and beginner runner. Most of our runners have been first time marathon runners. All our runners that have completed their training have been successful in running marathons of their choice.

The process of joining the program is simple. The biggest step is to decide to run a marathon or half, and make the time commitment required for training. Typically training is 5-6 months for first time runners. Half-marathon training can be completed in 3 months too. Once you have decided to run, e-mail seattle.teamasha@ashanet.org to register for the program. From the date of your registration, you can train for free till Feb 27th, after which you will be asked to commit to the program – train, complete and most importantly raise funds for Asha.

Team Asha Marathon team trains with Coach Ben Rixe. Training started in January 2011 which is geared towards local races like Mercer Island half marathon and Seattle Rock 'n' Roll marathon but any runner can take advantage of the program.

The training is free and the training program includes:

  • 1 weekend long-run training session.
  • 1 weekday training session.
  • Discount on Seattle Rock 'n' Roll marathon registration.
  • 1 Technical T-shirt
  • A mentor to help you through your training.
Minimum fundraising goals each runner needs to commit to:
  • For Half-marathon: $500 (without matching)
  • For Full-marathon: $1000 (without matching)

For first time runners, fundraising might appear daunting. But believe us, running is the hard part. Once you show your commitment to the cause by taking this challenge, it is not that difficult to convince your family/friends/colleagues to support your cause. Asha volunteers who have been runners and fund raisers will guide you through the process. We will create a profile for all our runners on this website and donors can directly give to your marathon effort via credit card. We will also provide each runner with a fundraising coach who can help them with sending e-mails, or answer any questions about how to approach friends and colleagues for donations.
