RSVP for the picnic and plan to make it to the Picnic. please do so as soon as
possible to Gopi at pgopi@microsoft.com
(2) Sign-Boards need to be made.(2 People)

the Picnic. Quiz:<gopalp@microsoft.com >
Gopal Sent this email as an update:
"Regarding the Quiz I have not much info to add at this stage. I am in
the process of collecting the names of potential quiz Masters and getting some
contact info. The next thing is to find a person who will take over from me in
Aug.( I will be in India for three weeks). Tentatively, the quiz is scheduled
for the first half of October 96."
Informational Night: Amol, said that
since we were busy with our exams in the mid-end of june, it was decided to
postpone the informational night for people outside Asha to Fall. It was also
suggested that we do it along with the Quiz in October.
Projects:
Site-Visit
(1) Murali gave a vivid description of his
Site-Visit. He has since posted the detail site-visit report on Asha-core.
(2) Siva read out his friends site visit report
of the Champa Mahila
Society project. There were two main issues:.
(i) Their continuance of funding. Asha had promised them 2yrs of funding and
the time to decide whether to review funding for them is coming up soon.
(ii) Asha-La had written to them and Siva had got an email from Asha-LA.Saying
"They had a project among themselves to get projects from India so they
picked organisations at random and wrote to them."
(3) Checks for various projects have been sent.
Padsare 1/2 payment was being sent and the other 1/2 will be sent by Stanford.
(4) Prerna Dham -project was not yet reviewed
by the project focus group.
(5) Asha-PPI project was at the initial stages.
PPI was reluctant to co-sponsor a project. We might have to ask the
organization in India to present 2 proposals..?
(6) Date on evening to view the videos of
Prachiti-projects and the other correspondence has not moved yet.(still to be
decided).
Other issues:
Future Funding of Projects, Future Payment
Schedules for them. It was decided that the project Focus group shall discuss
the same.
SAC:
Shamik had sent this mail a few days back. He
said that nothing much has happened Since. Here is the email :" We got a
reply from Each one Teach One(EOTO) organization in Bombay. They have answered
all the questions we had about organizational overheads and it seems like a
pretty efficient organization. They don't have any infrastructure costs
because they get a room in the 5 Schools in Bombay where they do their work.
They have 5 People who work as paid co-ordinators but all the other social
workers are volunteers. Even the meals they provide the children are cooked by
the mothers of the kids so we have to pay just the actual food cost. Their
detailed and prompt reply makes them seem like a very focused organization.
They have also contacted Rajini's Friend in Bombay so we should have a site
visit report pretty soon. I have written back to them asking for some more
sponsorship forms so we can start finding sponsors in Seattle."
Corporate Focus Group:
This is an update from Gagan's email to
me" In short there is nothing new to report from the corporate focus
group. We have not met since the last meeting . The activity in progress is
the brochure......"
University:
Ragamala Tea and Tutoring are going on.
Kid-care tutoring is short of volunteers and we might not be able to keep it
going.
Finance:
A decision on STOCKS donated was still pending
and it was not decided this time due to small number of people attending the
meeting.
