Meeting minutes of Jan 2, 2002

Attendees: Anita, Rajan & Swati

1. Rajan described Jagriti Bal Bikas Samiti, what they do, how they
started, his involvement with the group, the problems they are facing.
They work with the children of migratory laborers & in some villages. In
the villages they have to face the caste division & the problems
associated. For the migratory laborers, it is very difficult to maintain
continuity of their children's education because the families tend to move
in search of jobs. He also told us about the card project. The cards are
designed by the children & then printed.

2. Swati gave an update on the Support A Child (SAC) projects. Right
now there are 4 SAC projects running & all but Each One Teach One (EOTO)
have got every child sponsored. This seems to be very popular with the
donors. The main problem is finding volunteers! We plan on starting SAC
section for some of our existing projects. One thing we have to do is to
create a format/template for the annual updates donors will get from the
projects. We discussed this & came up with the following:

The annual report of each child should have:
a. Some report on their education - annual report (?)
b. Mention of their health - this can be especially important for
physically challenged kids, e.g. those in Shastri School.
c. Anything special he/she did that year - any
project/achievement/change
d. Some words from the child - what he/she wants say about
him/herself.

3. We needed someone to drive WAH 2002 on Asha-Seattle's behalf.
Rajan has agreed to do this. He will have to
a. Update the chapter on the overall WAH 2002, i.e. all the
deadlines, what all projects are being considered etc.
b. Drive the project review process for Seattle chapter i.e. make
sure its discussed in the meetings etc.
c. Drive the WAH 2002 publicity for Asha-Seattle, e.g. organize the
poster distribution, contact other orgs for putting WAH banner/button on
their website, asking them to help spread the word etc.
