Asha for Education is a fully volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit with 50+ chapters around the world whose mission is to catalyze socio-economic change in India through the education of underprivileged children.

We work with over 200 projects spread across the length and breadth of India. The projects deal with educational issues from pre-primary schooling to professional education in locations from urban slums to isolated rural areas.

You can help us in our mission in a variety of ways. You can join a local chapter, get involved with projects in India at an intimate level with the Asha Stars program, help us with our fundraising efforts, visit a project in India, donate!

Asha-St. Louis is a chapter of Asha, a non-profit voluntary organisation dedicated to increasing literacy among children in India.
Asha was started in 1991 in Berkeley to promote basic education for poor and underprivileged children in India. Since then it has grown in strength and number, and today Asha has over 86 chapters over the world.

Asha believes that an educated population is critical requisite as well as an effective catalyst for social and economic change in India. Socio-economic change means that a child should have more choices than his or her parents. These choices cannot be made available without education.

Asha is an excellent steward of funds. We carefully choose the projects after extensive review of the project activities, financials and students. No project is funded without a site visit by a volunteer or objective party. Asha conducts periodic audits of the project and its use of funds. Volunteers attempt to maintain a close personal involvement with the organizations and projects that are sponsored and aid the project with resources other than funding.

Asha-St. Louis is a non-profit voluntary organization. It does not have any political or religious affiliations. All administrative expenses are met by the core volunteers. 100% of your donations support education projects in India. Charity Navigator (an independent third party website that ranks charities) has called Asha a “Slam Dunk Charity”.

Asha-St. Louis was formed in September 1996 in Washington University. Since then, the group has grown to encompass professionals and volunteers from all walks of life. It is easy to become a volunteer. Come to our meeting, raise your hand, and follow through. All proceedings of Asha are public and transparent.

The more volunteers we have, the more we can do. We welcome your participation.
