For Approving Projects

  • Asha will work with only non-sectarian groups having no religious and political affiliations and which do not discriminate on the basis of caste, creed, religion or sex.
  • The project proposal must describe the project in detail, its objectives, plan of action, number of children covered, number of people involved in the implementation of project, an itemized budget and any other relevant information.
  • The projects must be planned, managed and sustained by the group itself with little outside help.
  • The project must improve the general welfare of the community emphasizing the education related aspects.
  • The benefits of the project must be fairly distributed and should reach a maximum number of children.
  • Project proposals requesting less than U.S. $1000 will be given priority. Proposals requesting our support for a period of less than a year will be given priority. The group should convince Asha that it can sustain the project beyond this period.
  • The group will be required to provide complete financial and narrative reports (and photographs, if possible) on the progress of project when desired by Asha (not more than 4 times during a year).

For the Contact Person/Organization in INDIA

The following lists the guidelines that the contact person or organization in India must follow in order to participate in Asha's "Support a Child" program.
1. Asha will work with only non-sectarian groups having no religious and political affiliations and which do not discriminate on the basis of caste, creed, religion or sex.
2. Preferably the entire amount provided by Asha should be used to support activities directly pertaining to the welfare of the child. Such activities may include tuition, stipend for the child, all education related expenses including books, transportation, food, clothes, recreational activities but may not include book-keeping or other overhead.
3. The child being sponsored by Asha should not receive funds from any other external agency. If the contact person/organization feels it necessary to have additional support, it should be so only after our approval.
4. The contact person/organization should facilitate and assist communication between the individual sponsor/Asha representatives and the sponsored child if so desired by the sponsor/Asha.
5. The contact person/organization should intimate us about the progress of the sponsored child after each term (roughly once in about six months). This should be in the form of complete financial and narrative reports (and photographs, if possible) about each child.
6. Continued support of the child will be contingent upon continued enrollment in school and satisfactory progress. The decision to continue support will be based on Asha's discretion, at the recommendations from the contact person/organization and any of our visiting representatives.

For Sponsors in "Support-a-Child" Program

The following are the guidelines and information to sponsors in Asha's "Support A Child" program.
1. We hope a long-term committment from you for the child you are sponsoring, and expect at least 2 years of support.
2. We are willing to provide any information we have about the child you are sponsoring or the contact person/organization in India through which we are sponsoring.
3. You are free to communicate with the child you are sponsoring either directly or through us and/or the contact person/organization in India.
4. We will be glad to provide, to the best of our ability and availability of volunteers any translation services required to facilitate correspondence between you and the sponsored child.
