of the meeting on April 5, 2002.
ATTENDEES

MINUTES
1. Elizabeth Slate, a new member, was introduced to
the members.
2. ASHA wide elections: ASHA Syracuse chapter is abstaining
from the voting process.
3. Project Evaluations: It was decided to define project
evaluations and to pick up projects online.
4. We will contact current projects organizations
before the end of the semester to obtain status reports.
Further plans would be finalized for the fall semester.
5. PR group will redesign posters and brochures to
generate more interest to attract new members and
for generating overall interest in the community.
6. Talk Group:
(1) There might to be a talk by Santosh on "Communalism
in India and the School Curriculum" to be followed
up by Natarajan.
(2) Discussion group with a moderator - A particular
topic will be chosen for discussion online on a separate
listserv. Current proposed topic is "volunteerism".
Other topics can be chosen and discussed online or
further reviewed as a group at separate times aside
from the regular ASHA meetings.
(3) The need to find several individuals for a talk
for the next semester (min. of 2 topics per semester).
A possibile topic could relate to education and social
transformation. We will look for funding from the
GSO and the South Asia Center for the talks series.
7. Basant Mela:
(1) Friday, April 12th all members should arrive at
10 AM to setup the mela at ACC. Core members should
send email to the listserv. as to when they can arrive
to help on Friday.
(2) Ticket Sales - All ASHA core members should abstain
from purchasing tickets but should give the cost of
their ticket to Anand by next Wednesday. Any extra
tickets that people have taken from Anand to sell
should be returned to him by Wednesday along with
any money collected. Please note that tickets will
continue to be sold at the door.
(3) Cost of ACC has been paid by Shanmugam.
(4) Need to explore possibility for a projector for
the mela. Also need to explore possibilities of getting
more carpets to rent for seating. Shanmugam may coordinate
these activities.
(5) Question on either punching tickets or stamping
hands - Decision was made to take tickets at entry
and the hand to be stampe! d.
(6) STA travels is interested to give a $100 donation
if a table is provided at the mela for them. Possibility
of providing a table for them between 4 and 7 PM will
be followed up by Vikas and Anand.
(7) An update on donations to the mela - HSBC has
provided a $100 donation and current the donation
amount for the mela is approx. $1200.
(8) Any further purchases required for the mela should
be emailed to Vanita.
(9) A note on Mehendi - Smita Rani has offered to
teach mehendi. All interested should contact Vikas.
(10) An update on ticket sales - 300 printed, 132
left with the box office, 168 were given to ASHA core
group members to sell. Of the 132 left with box office
10 were sold (as of Friday, April 5th).
(11) Mela promotions - Possibilities of tables being
set up in Link Hall and CST as well as the Quad.
