The action item that
were discussed were
The job of the cheque to Dr.
Sudharshan, was assigned to Natarajan
The areas that were discussed were
Theatre workshop
The cost factor for the theatre and
also the participation was questioned. The cost has been
brought down to $ 1000 that includes the cost of Aparna
Sindur’s stay and the cost for her car and oil (cost of
which would be $ 200).
About participants the problem was as
of now we did not get any response from the
participants. So aspect of covering up the cost was
questioned. So it was questioned whether we can go along
with the whole process.
SO why should we go ahead with it?
The advantage that was put forth was
that it will show that Asha Syracuse is also associated
with activities other than it’s core activities. An
interesting view to this was brought forward by Radha
who said of her experience of how some of the other
people viewed the work done at Asha (like giving lecture
on Hindu philosophy in Maxwell School), etc.
Means suggested so as to reach out to
prospective participants
-
Put Flyers at various locations like
Kashmir store and temple.
-
Catch Newhouse students as they might
be among the more interested people.
-
Send this info to the SCIS and SU
cultural group.
Also discussed was the thing about the
things needed for Aparna which were sleeping bags and
VCR’s.
Mehfil
Regarding Mehfil the issues brought
out were that of funding as well as that of the timing.
As for money there were two points that of taking the
fund from the Asha’s reserve or taking money by asking
form GSO. Also about the cost Nikhil clarified about the
though the cost will come to $550, but that included a
lot of cost in that of man hours which were variable. So
there are good chances that the cost will come down
substantially.
Also discussed was timing. As we have
different events the coming weekends, and also as later
on there would be pressure for mid term the only time we
are left with is to choose between 16 and 23rd
of November.
As there is some problem with the
timing as it has become late as well as the timing, the
need for organizing was questioned. It was decided by
voting, and we decided that we will go along with it.
As for food we decided that as an
incentive for people who are coming and are going to
shell out some money it was necessary that they get some
food, but then how would be on a first come first basis.
The cost of food as decided is
$ 0.80 for samosa * 200 samosa = $
150
For event = $ 400
Space allocation for Spring
As we need to allocate space for
spring as now, we had to decide on the location as well
as timing. As for timing it was decided that it should
happen before the spring break so the following dates
were chosen i.e. March 28th, April 4th
and April 11th.
As for space the things that were
decided were between Goldstein and Schine. Though
Goldstein had an advantage of Low cost and good ambience
but had a disadvantage of difficulty in reaching there.
No further decisions were made.
Asha Syracuse Website
Things discussed were
-
Link to main site was not that good
-
How to make it viewable for text only
browser like Lynx
-
How can the website suggest the
character of the chapter.
-
Can we have online contribution over
the web site? In this the factors that are of
importance is the cost that might be incurred in
building that sort of stuff. Also one can involve the
resource of the Asha Main ‘s collection procedure.
Volunteer
As a part of volunteer questionnaire
that was required Asha-wide.
Three
people were selected form different level of association
with Asha. Shantanu from the newer association, Jagdish
from the middle level association and Jerry as being the
older association.
Basant Mela Tapes
For
this it was decided about changing the Video Tapes into
digital format and then it could be copied into CD’s.
Radha took the charge of doing it.
Lookout of new volunteers
The
need for newer volunteers was stressed as seven existing
members will be going off in the coming year. So it was
encouraged to bring in as many friends as possible. As
Natarajan stressed it also does not matter if the person
whom one brings might like to be in the group but
because many of the people stick initially with the
group not because they like the group but they because
of the peer pressure.
