Donate Your Computer

In addition to corporate donations of Mac, PC, and laptop computers, World Computer Exchange (WCE) accepts the donation of individual computers and/or monitors. It is very important that the equipment be in working condition with all of its parts since the WCE partners and the schools they recruit do not usually have replacement parts. WCE appreciates any software, manuals, documentation you might have for the computer or its maintenance history.

- click here for information about how a company can make a donation

Four steps in the donation process:

1. Make sure the donation is acceptable: we need working 486 (at least 50 MHz) and Pentium class computers with monitor, keyboard, mouse, and any installed ethernet cards or modems. We will also be delighted to receive laptops and Macs - as long as they are working and can be connected to the Internet. (WCE no longer accepts 486s or monitors that are pre 1995. The computers/monitors need to have this information on the back: Power 110/220 volts.)

2. Prepare it for shipment: We would be picking up the computer from your house/office, so you will not need to drop it off or ship it to WCE directly. In case you would prefer to drop it off you do not need to pack it but if you are shipping it to WCE (if you are not in Syracuse, Blacksburg or any place close enough for us to arrange for a pick up), please pack the computer properly and protectively for ocean shipment along with a descriptive inventory of the computer specs, modem or networking capacity, operating system, and any software that are in or with the computer. Please e-mail this to Donations@WorldComputerExchange.org and tape this to the outside of the computer along with your name and address so that the recipient school can send you a thank you when it arrives.

3. Provide a return mail address for your donor receipt: We will be collecting information regarding your mail address and for the donor receipt. In case you are sending the PC/monitor directly to WCE, please provide your mailing address when you ship the computer. In addition to our heartfelt thanks, WCE will provide a donor receipt for tax deduction purposes. Please e-mail us at the time that the box leaves your home or office so that we can reply when it arrives here.

4. If you are shipping the computer to WCE directly, in USA (except for areas listed below), ship it to WCE's Boston office at the following address:

 936 Nantasket Avenue
 Hull, Massachusetts 02045 USA
 Telephone: + 781-925-3078
 FAX: + 509-752-9186

Please mention the project which Asha-Syracuse is sending the computer to. This way WCE knows where to send the computer after it is received by them. If you are in the area of the following four US cities, please contact that office directly for local drop-off locations or pick-up information.
