The Toledo Rotary Foundation recently made a $10,000 donation to the Toledo chapter of Asha for Education.

Asha Toledo is one of 65 chapters of Asha for Education, an international organization dedicated to educating underprivileged children in India.

According to Binal Shah, project coordinator with the Toledo chapter and UT doctoral student, the money will be used toward Project Confidence, which will take place in the southern part of India in Andhra Pradesh state.

"Project Confidence is aimed at generating self-employment in 100 villages through providing a meaningful training program to 400 young adults, enabling them to be self-sufficient and remain in their villages, thereby generating confidence," Shah said. "Youth from 100 nearby villages will be gathered and trained in skills that would assist them in becoming self-reliant."

The courses that will be offered through this institution will include dressmaking and electrical, plumbing and carpentry skills, as well as courses in computer operation and repair.
