9 Mile River Run - 2009
Introduction

Team Asha UFlorida, the runner group of Asha UFlorida, is participating in the Annual Gate River Run (15K) in Jacksonville on 14th March 2009. This is one of the initiatives taken by our chapter to raise awareness and funds for educational projects in India. In the past two years, our Team raised over $14,000 through the donation of over 250 generous donors during the Gate River Run campaigns. The Gate River Run is the largest 15K in the United States and will once again served as the USA 15K Championship. Last year over 18,000 runners and walkers participated in one of the three featured events. The 15K is the main event with over 14,000 runners and walkers. The 32nd Annual Gate River Run promises to be the biggest and best ever.
The Gate River Run has all the ingreidents of a great running event. The course starts at the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, runs through the heart of downtown Jacksonville where the race crosses the St. Johns River over the Main Street Bridge, then runs through historic San Marco, down Atlantic Blvd to the beautifuland scenic St. Nicolas area, and then crosses the river for the second time over the green monster, the Hart Bridge, to finish back at the stadium.
Live bands perform at ten different locations on the course to keep you pumped up through-out the race, waters stations are located at every mile, medical stations can be found at several points along the course, and thousands of spectators come out for yard parties all along the route. The Gate River Run is more than a race. It is a major happening in Jacksonville.

Quotes by our last year runners:
| "Long-distance running can sound unattractive and scary at first, but having a team and the goal of raising awareness about unprivileged children of India and funds to help them getting a better future make it much more appealing and easier. In Team Asha Uflorida I found what I was looking for in training, running, and making a difference. In one word, I have found a family that brings fulfillment, fun, and reward in my life and hope in the life of many disadvantaged kids." - Nelly Volland (Runner - Gate River Run 2008) |

| " Running for Asha Uflorida was perhaps one of the best times I have had till date. Training for over 300 miles over a period of 6 months, meeting new friends and enjoying the beautiful trail was a great experience. Our coaches, Rick and Dana have done a fantastic job motivating all of us. I thank our donors who had confidence in the cause and the team. Looking forward for more races in the future. Go Team Asha! - Sanketh Bhat (Runner - Gate River Run 2008) |
