WAH - Work an Hour 2007

WAH2007.JPG (61344 bytes)

Work An Hour, or WAH, as it is popularly known, is a simple concept. We ask you to symbolically contribute one hour of your time towards the cause of children's education by donating an hour's worth of your salary or more.

The event symbolically begins on July 4, the American Independence Day, reaches an apex on August 15, the Indian Independence Day, and finally culminates on September 5, which is celebrated as Teachers' Day in India. The top few projects are selected for WAH funding and this year our Vikasana Bridge School Project has been selected for WAH.

Project Background: Vikasana is a bridge school that caters to a cluster of 10 villages in Shimoga district in Karnataka. Due to very low wage rates many children are forced to work with their parents, some of them working in coffee plantations, brick-making or as agricultural / domestic workers to supplement income for the family. The Vikasana bridge school helps such children to catch up with their education and transition into formal schools. Asha for Education has helped over 50 former child laborers to return to school over the past two years.

WAH budget of $27,500 has been allocated for this project and your WAH donation will help fund the purchase of farm land for this school.
