Faq for Runners

Is there a minimum fitness level requirement?
Yes, you should be able to walk-run 2 miles or 30 minutes at any speed, though this will depend entirely on your goals for the marathon. We recommend you talk to our coaches directly to discuss your fitness level and marathon goals. During last year's program, there were many beginners who completed the marathon. The key is discipline and commitment to the personalized training program.
Is there going to be any training program for the marathon?

Yes, Asha UIUC has organized a comprehensive training program for the marathon. Please visit our training page for details.

I have heard that Asha is a zero-overhead organization and that all donations go directly towards educating underprivileged children in India. Doesn't the marathon fundraiser have expenses associated with it?

100% of all donations made to Asha for Education directly benefit projects in India. The marathon, though is a fundraiser with some expenses, i.e. running coaches, race entry fees, and travel. Thus, part of the sponsorship will be used to cover these costs. Asha pledges to keep these costs as low as possible.
Many of our runners opt to incur some or all of these costs themselves in order to keep the fundraiser's costs down. The sponsorship amount, minus the associated costs, will directly benefit Asha supported projects in India.
