KICK-OFF MEETING this SATURDAY (05/08/04) at 5pm on NORTH-END of the QUAD

Asha UIUC has made a comprehensive training program for the marathon.  We have made arrangements with the following campus organizations and volunteer agencies for the program

McKinley SportWell Center

We have made arrangements with the SportWell Center at the McKinley Health Clinic for  treatment of any athletic injuries caused during our training program. The SportWell center has excellent staff and facilities for treating such injuries. They would also provide us with tips on howto prevent injuries.

Second Wind Running Club

Second Wind Running Club is a Champaign-Urbana based volunteer organization which was founded to promote running activities in this area. Some excellent and seasoned runners are members of this club. We will be seeking their advice and help for our marathon training program. We would also be practicing by participating in their runs, running alongside their experienced runners.

Training Schedule

We will follow a well documented and tested training schedule that focusses on FIRST TIME RUNNERS such as the one given by Hal Higdon, a professional coach, or one set by coaches at Asha chapter at Silicon Valley. We will be in constant touch with the coaches and running team at silicon valley.

Mentorship and Coaching

We, as a team, will make sure that everyone who so wishes, finds mentorship for both training and fundraising. The veteran runners at silicon valley, the Second Wind running club, and our own team will be more than happy to assist you in this regard. Thus, although we are not planning to hire any professional coaches for the marathon program, there isn't going to be any lack of professional training. Amit, a seasoned runner himself and Asha volunteer, who ran the Long Beach Marathon last year would be our principal organizer for the program. We would be getting plenty of help from the McKinley Health Center as well as the Second Wind Running Club, as mentioned above.

Before You Start

Just turn up (Saturday, May 8, 2004, 5 pm, North End of the Quad). We will guide you from scratch. Nevertheless, these things are for you to start.
