The UIUC chapter of Asha was formed in January 1999 to promote basic education for poor and underprivileged children in India. This chapter is among the 31 chapters of Asha. In April 1992, Asha was registered as a Trust at New Delhi. At the University of Illinois, Asha enjoys the status of a registered student organization (RSO).
Objectives of the Group
- To provide education to the poor and underprivileged children in India.
- To encourage the formation of various local groups, both in U.S. and
India, to reach out to larger sections of the population.
- To support and cooperate with persons and groups already engaged in
similar activities.
- To raise the required human and other resources to achieve the group
objectives.
- To provide opportunity to individuals based in the U.S. who wish to
participate in Asha activities in India.
- To address, whenever possible, other issues affecting human life such as health care, environment, socio-economic aspects and women's issues.
