  • Asha's Total Marathon Program trains you to run 26.2 miles while raising funds for the education of underprivileged children in India. This year's participants ran the Long Beach, Vancouver, and Chicago Marathons on Oct. 12th; Concord and Marine Core (DC) Marathons on Oct. 26th; the NYC Marathon on Nov. 2nd; Marathon in the Park, and Maryland Marathon on Nov. 9th; the Philiadelphia Marathon on Nov. 23rd; and the Seattle Marathon on Nov. 30th.

  • End-of-Year Giving

    At the end of the year, many people consider making a donation to their favorite charity --- some for tax purposes, some just in the spirit of the holiday season. In the digital age, it is easy to give to help educate underprivileged children in India: you can make a secure online donation.

    Asha for Education is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are fully tax deductible in the USA. In India, donations are 50% deductible under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. In the UK, donations are fully tax exempt. In Switzerland, Asha is registered as Steuerbefreiung Vereine under Kantonales Steueramt Zurich.

  • Asha Central-NJ brings to you tho ultimate roller-coaster of fun - Asha Tarang - a summer festival featuring games for everyone, World Arts and Craft workshops and vendors, delicious food serving international cuisine, DJ with the latest music from bollywood to reggae, and stage shows performed by well-known artists from around the NJ area. The show will be hosted by Sarina Jain, host of VDesi and from Masala Bhangra fame, and Harry Malhotra the master of standup comedy.

  • Serve India Forum (SIF) is a network that aims to bring together non-profit organizations working for India's development, in order to increase awareness, build relationships, and forge synergy. The Serve India Forum 2002 Conference is the first achievement of this network and will be attended by volunteers from Asha for Education, AID, IDS, ICA, AIF, RIM and many other groups. SIF 2002 is being held at the Perlstein Hall on the Illinois Institute of Technology Campus in Chicago on Aug 31 - Sep 2 (Labor Day weekend). Online registration is open at the SIF 2002 website.

  • Dr. S. Pandey, one of the founders and early vounteers of Asha has recently been awarded the 2002 Ramon Magsaysay award in the 'Emergent Leadership Category' for his work towards the upliftment of the poor and the underprivileged in India. The entire Asha community is proud his work has found the recognition it deserved. Congratulations!

  • Asha presents Support A Child - sponsor an underprivileged child's education/total living expense, develop correspondence and interaction with a special child. Currently this program is being run by three Asha chapters - Seattle, Silicon Valley and NYC/NJ.

  • Eklavya is a volunteer organization in India that has run the Hoshangabad Science Teaching Program (HSTP), an innovative education initiative, for 30 years in over 1000 schools of Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. In spite of an NCERT panel recommending that HSTP techniques be used all over the country, the program has been shut down by the State Government. Please see this page for more information on Eklavya and what you can do to support HSTP and bring it back in operation.

  • Asha-Irvine celebrated Navratri at Monarch Bay, UCI Student Center on October 27, 2001 with zest, and true Desi passion for Dandiya, the highlight of Navratri. Proceeds from the event went to projects supported by Asha-Irvine as well as the September 11 fund of the American Red Cross for victims of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

  • The volunteers of Asha for Education are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives that occurred on September 11 in New York City, Washington DC and Pennsylvania. Our heartfelt sympath ies are with the families and loved ones of the victims. We also urge everyone to rally around in support of ethnic and minority groups who are being attacked in the aftermath of the tragedy.   • In our 10th year, Asha for Education will hold the 3rd all chapter conference in Berkeley where it all began. The Asha-10 Conference will be held from Saturday, May 26th to Monday, May 28th - Memorial Day Weekend.

  • On October 7, 2000, Kresge auditorium at Stanford will witness a unique cultural event: the history of the Indian subcontinent, narrated through the traditional Indian dance form of Kathak. A troupe of classical Kathak dancers from the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, Bangalore, India, will perform Kathak Through the Ages, a recital in which they musically depict the phases of Kathak's evolution.


  • Asha-Berkeley presents the 10th Anniversary Edition of 'Images of India' on saturday, October 21, 2000 at the International house, UC Berkeley.

    Asha for Education's Work an Hour 2000 fund-raiser event is now closed. This year, our aim was to raise $75,000 by August 15, 2000. 1378 donors had pledged $80706 by September 5, 2000 to benefit 1097 children and 6 projects.
