Projects To Be Supported

Over the past few months Asha volunteers have spent a lot of time doing extensive research on the projects which will be funded through your hard work. All the projects being sponsored are excellent projects which have received good recommendations. Asha volunteers have personally visited the projects and made sure that the funds will be put to good use.

We have also followed several guidelines to ensure that the projects are of good quality. For a more detailed explanation of how Asha selects projects please visit http://www.ashanet.org/guidelines.html.

Feel free to get in touch with us if you have any questions regarding project selection. The projects to be funded are listed in priority order.

Vivekananda Education Society

Vivekananda Education Society (VESC), located in Jagaddal, 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, was founded in January 1996 to address the problem of child labor in the region.

The proposal is to use funds from Work an Hour to purchase land and build a school. This would allow VESC to have a permanent base from where it can operate.

The detailed proposal for VESC can be accessed from http://www.ashanet.org/arizona/projects/VESC.html

Seva Nilayam

Seva Nilayam, located in a remote village in Tamil Nadu, was created to help the most economically backward children grow up to be educated, talented individuals who will be a great asset for society.

The Gurukulam, presently housing 31 girls, aims to take in girl children with no home and bring them up with loving care. There are plans to start a school inside the Gurukulam to give them an education and give them different types of vocational training to help them become independent, responsible adults.

This proposal includes requests for funding the Gurukulam and the School. Asha-Irvine is also supporting this project.
