CAUSE - Street to School

Location: Kolkata, Kolkata District
West Bengal

The Half Way Home is a temporary shelter service provided by Tomorrow's Foundation to needy children such as victims of abuse, sick children, and children who have nowhere to go during monsoons, until a permanent shelter is found for them. The home will support 20 children initially. The children will remain in the home for a maximum period of one year. This WAH funding will help Tomorrow's Foundation build this home and kickstart the service. Tomorrow's Foundation collaborates with other like-minded organizations to provide this useful service today. One half of the home is dedicated to the children and the other half is used for various activities of the Foundation including the Foundation offices, vocational training and NGO meetings.

Organization

Tomorrow's Foundation is a 10 year old NGO that is based in Kalighat, Kolkata. The Foundation works with the local municipal corporation school to address educational, physical and emotional needs of about 200 street/slum children/children of sex workers living in a high-risk social and physical environment. They achieved a milestone when UNESCO accepted Tomorrow's Foundation as a model project worth replicating elsewhere in the country and across the world.
