PRESS RELEASE

ASHA FOR EDUCATION (YALE UNIVERSITY CHAPTER) SUCCESSFULLY HELD ITS 4TH ANNUAL 5K RUN/WALK TO RAISE FUNDS FOR PROMOTING SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHANGE IN INDIA THROUGH BASIC EDUCATION FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN.

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut, June 11, 2007 - Yesterday, the Yale University chapter of Asha for Education ( http://www.ashanet.org/yale/) successfully held its 4th Annual 5K Run/ Walk at the East Rock Park in New Haven, Connecticut. The funds raised at this event (and all other Asha events) are used to fund projects that promote socio-economic change in India through basic education for underprivileged children. The event attracted 70 enthusiastic participants, including local area families, students, faculty, staff and serious runners.
The local community actively supported the event, led by chief sponsor, Jayanti and Shaku Patel, Holiday Inn Express, Branford. This annual run is the primary source of fund-raising for Asha-Yale and it will continue to reach out to individuals and businesses by leveraging the awareness generated by this successful event. So far, the 4th Annual run/walk has raised approximately $5,000 and aims to raise another $4,000 through post event activities.

About Asha for Education

Asha for Education (http://www.ashanet.org/) is a secular, apolitical, zero-overhead, all-volunteer action group dedicated to promoting socio-economic change in India through basic education for underprivileged children. It was born in 1991 at the University of California in Berkeley , and today, there are over 66 Asha chapters worldwide: 45 in the US , 14 in India , and 7 in Europe, Singapore and Australia . To date, Asha has supported more than 385 different projects spanning 24 states in India .

•  Non-sectarian, secular -- will not fund initiatives or projects that are solely for the benefit of one religious community barring others.

•  Zero Overhead -- Minimal overhead is typically covered through contributions from volunteers. Hence, Asha can promise its supporters that very close to 100% of their contributions go directly to projects and community initiatives.
