Kalyania started with a primary focus on health care, attending to the senior citizens and subsequently took on the education for those who otherwise do not get it. With these in view, a group of people consisting largely of Doctors, University Professors and retired execs established the Kalyania Society in 1998 with the objective of providing help to those who need them most. Since then it has grown involving a good section of like-minded persons, young, middle aged and old. The objectives finally jelled into:

1. Generating health care through women empowerment and providing avenues for earning through vocation as training in the form of Sevika training and Home Nursing training centers. For Sevika training, they have 10-15 students per batch and 2 batches per year. For Home Nursing training, they have 20 students per batch and 2 batches per year.

2. Holistic education for the children of the deprived and the downtrodden, living largely in ghettos or inhabitable locations by establishing Suhasini Sishu Niketan, a primary school. For the primary school, they have 90 students.
